We love pond and lake creatures great and small…

We hope that everyone enjoyed our Mother’s Day program last Friday and we also hope that you all had a fabulous weekend!

Most of you have already received your gifts… Some of our children made cards, and all of our little ones painted on a small canvas that we taped a heart on to with what they thought was their mom’s favorite color.  We also painted coffee filters using water colors and combined them with a little tissue paper and pipe cleaners to make beautiful flowers for our moms.  We hope you enjoyed the gifts.  You deserve them!

This week we are talking about Life in a Pond!  Our books throughout the week will talk about turtles, frogs and their life cycles, fish and all sorts of other pond creatures.  Today we made a pond in our science room, and it will evolve throughout the week.  We used hard felt to create ‘Lily Pads’.  We also put in some turtles, frogs and various lizards and reptiles just for fun. 🙂  We put in fish and we also used a few fishing poles to go on a fun freshwater fishing trip!  We also put in some crinkle paper to give the water a more sensory texture for creatures to ‘swim’ through.  The kids had a blast playing with it!  More fun as the week goes on….

Important Upcoming Dates:

This Thursday (May 15th) and Friday (May 16th) will be our Spring Photos.  The majority of our class (kids that attend Monday through Friday as well as only on Tuesdays and Thursdays will take photos on Thursday (15th).  Our students that only attend on Monday/Wed/Friday and any make ups will take photos on Friday.  Please remind myself and the office if you have any sibling shots so that we can make sure they happen.

Conferences will be held next Friday on May 23rd.  I am aware of a few of our parents need to coordinate times with conferences elsewhere in the preschool and also with MJGDS.  I am doing my best to either work with other teachers or parents to find a time that is convenient for you.  If you will be using kids club to watch your child (only during the time of their individual conference) the forms are due this Wed. (May 14th).  Feel free to email me about your conference time with any questions of concerns, and I will be privately contacting all the parents to either inquire or confirm your times. 🙂

Next week on Tuesday we will have a water play day!  Children should come to school and bring with them a bathing suit, swim diaper (if not potty trained), towel, water shoes, sunscreen labeled with your child’s name, and a plastic bag to send home wet things.  When you drop off your child, please apply sunscreen once at drop off and we will reapply it just before we play in the water.  For many sunscreens to work optimally they need to be applied for a short amount of time before sun and water exposure.  We appreciate your help to make sure that everyone stays safe…  The permission slips for sunscreen use are due on May 16th.  Students will not be allowed to go outside without the form and/or sunscreen labelled with their name.

Whew!  It’s the end of the year and we have so many fun activities planned!!  Please don’t hesitate to email me with concerns or questions and I will do my best to make sure I post regular updates and reminders on the blog or via email…  Have a great upcoming week!
